MOORE, Jason Thomas, of Tampa, born August 20, 1975, went to be with the Lord May 12, 2011. He worked as a lineman for Team Fishel, which does contracting work for Tampa Electric. He was implementing a new pole and was suddenly and accidentally electrocuted. Jason worked hard all of his life, from the time he was 14 years old in a produce store right up until his death. His work ethic was unprecedented and he loved his work. He graduated from the University of South Florida in Tampa, with a bachelor's degree in management information systems. Jason excelled outside of work as well. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Jason was a member of many bass fishing clubs, along with his father, Gary, and his uncle, Satch, from his time in Ohio as well as in Florida. He had won angler of the year multiple times and had the skill of a professional. Jason touched many lives and had as many friends as a guy could ask for. Jason will be terribly missed by so many. Jason was preceded in death by his grandparents, Thomas and Bertha Arrowood; uncle, Satch Arrowood; grandmother, Joyce Moore; aunt, Paula Damron; and his little cousin, Paul Land. He also leaves behind grandfather, Roy Moore and Deanna and Michael Land, and their children, Tessa and Royce, who reside in Port Richey, Fla. He has extensive family in Middletown, Ohio, consisting of his aunts, Gail and Connie Arrowood; and his uncles, Tommy and Kenny Arrowood, all of whom parented his numerous cousins. His family and friends have many wonderful memories to cherish together. "Jason was a terrific father, son, brother, relative and friend, and he will be sorely missed in this world and greatly treasured in Heaven. May he rest in peace." A memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Wednesday evening, May 18, 2011, from the Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Crystal River, Fla., with the Rev. Adamian, Karl H., beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away Wednesday evening, May 11, 2011. He was 74. Karl was a resident of the Coconut Creek area for 40 years. He was born in Webster, Massachusetts on April 26, 1937. He was a graduate of Boston Technical High School, whose senior quote was "Manners make the man". His love of learning inspired him to continue his studies , taking classes at West Chester College in Pennsylvania, M.I.T. and Harvard in Massachusetts. He later attended Broward College to earn his degree in business. Karl was an accomplished musician who played both saxophone and sang Barbershop Quartet in a group named the "Exits" in Worcester, MA. naming themselves such because "they wanted to see their names in lights!". Karl moved to Florida with his young family in 1967. He opened his own upholstery business, Charlese Upholstery, named for his daughters, Charlene and Lisa, in 1977. His business was a success not only because of his talent, but because he was an extraordinary man. He made friends in business that became friends for life. Karl was blessed with a kidney transplant, "Philip", in 1996. He was given this special gift at Jackson Memorial hospital, in Miami, by a team of dedicated physicians and staff led by his surgeon, Dr. Gaetano Ciancio. Karl volunteered his time and heart to "Donate Life", and to "The Tiger Transplant Fund", an organization dedicated to assisting "Kids in Distress" and "Transplant Kids" and their families. He was an active member of The Knights of Columbus and a retired chaplain's assistant with the United States Army. Karl's greatest source of pride was his family. Karl was a loving and devoted father, sharing his talents and knowledge with both of his daughters. He continued to share these gifts with his grandchildren. He was so proud of his family! Kathleen Henderson (In Memoriam)

In Loving Memory of Kathleen Price Henderson Nine years ago, April 16, 2002, beloved wife, mother, sister and daughter Kathy Henderson went to be with her Lord. This memoriam is for her many family members, friends and loved ones, and for praise for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She remains with us by virtue of a wonderful legacy of family members and friends who experienced her unconditional love and kindness, and a life that demonstrated her passion for her Christian faith. This is summarized by one of her favorite biblical passages: Isaiah 41:10 "Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Kathy lived her Christian faith with quiet patience and courage, and she wanted others to have the very best life possible. For her friends and family members, her love was unconditional and knew no bounds. It has been said that times of tribulation generate defining moments in life from which a person's inner character is made visible to others. We had a gift from our Lord to allow us to see manifested in Kathy's life an innermost peace and faith which can only come from God's Holy Spirit. Our family will always be deeply touched by the love of Kathy's many friends. We knew before her death that God could heal her, and we continue to know that our God is all-powerful and His will shall be done. The fact that God's will doesn't always coincide with our requests doesn't in any fashion alter His absolute love for each of us. We know that Kathy is not dead; she truly is with her Creator, and merely passed from this life to a more real and lasting life above with our Lord. The word "eulogy" is from the Greek word for "praise," and many of Kathy's traits are worthy of praise. However, the praise from our lips shall be forever directed to our Lord for His love and gift of eternal salvation.

Mr. John Lott Brown (Featured)

The University of South Florida's third president and the one credited with setting it on a path to research prominence, John Lott Brown, has died. He was 86. Brown came to USF in 1978 from the University of Rochester, in New York, where he directed the Center for Visual Science. As an engineer, he focused on promoting USF's professional schools - engineering, business and medicine. "He represented the era when USF fundamentally changed from being a small liberal arts college to a research university," said USF marketing vice president Michael Hoad, who as a reporter at the Tampa Tribune covered Lott's tenure at USF. During Brown's 10 years as president, USF experienced extraordinary growth. Its budget more than doubled to $250 million as its enrollment grew to 29,500 students, making USF the second largest public university in Florida. USF research grants grew from about $10 million to $23 million under Lott, helping him fend off attempts to designate only the University of Florida and Florida State as the state's primary universities. Betty Castor, a USF president from 1993 to 1999, called Brown "a visionary." He established regional branches in Lakeland and Fort Myers, and he attracted researchers, scientists and doctoral students to the university, she said. "He played a crucial role in the academic expansion, especially the medical expansion," Castor said. "He really wanted to build the academic program," Castor said. "Now USF is a research giant." His focus on research angered some faculty members who said it came at the expense of liberal arts teaching. Critics also complained that with his research push, USF grew too fast, particularly the medical school. Toward the end of his tenure, the school had become financially insolvent because of lax internal administration. But Brown installed new management before he announced his resignation in 1987. Brown's boss at the time, University System Chancellor Charlie Reed, said that USF under Brown was "one of American higher education's great 20th Century success stories." After resigning, Brown became a professor in the engineering school, spending many of his evenings dancing with his wife Katie at Librero's School and Dance Club on Davis Islands. He also water skied and scuba dove. The couple left Tampa in 1994 when Brown was asked to become interim president of his alma mater, Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts. Brown had entered WPI in 1946 as part of the U.S. Navy's V-12 college training program. He then earned a master's degree in psychology from Temple University in Philadelphia, and a Ph.D. from Columbia University in New York. He served on the faculties of the University of Pennsylvania and Kansas State University, where he did research on the physiology of the visual system. He loved the study of the eye and how the brain perceived images, Hoad said. "He was very much the engineer, the guy who was detailed and precise. He loved the precision of research." He is survived by his wife, four children and six grandchildren.
